I thought I would take a few minutes to do a little round up of what happened in the world of Fifty Shades of Grey and Laters, baby in 2013.
Around the new year, Mags and I talked each other into upgrading the site. It meant lots of work, but gave us a lot more flexibility with the site. After setting that up I went on to read Tess of the D’Urbervilles. It was slow at times, but the book is great and you’ll finally get to read how it ends in 2014.
In July, I participated in a Fifty Shades of Grey 1 Year anniversary radio show and had a little surprise when E L James came on the air herself.
The news on Fifty Shades of Grey continued to churn out, even if it wasn’t accurate. Kelly Marcel told us the film would have lots of sex, but she didn’t say it would be raunchy. More recently Dana Brunetti has expressed that they would like to have an R and NC-17 version, there was much rejoicing.
Fifty Shades of Grey continued to pop up in unexpected places, like The Bachelor, too bad the girl seemed like a drunk fool. But hey, it made for interesting TV. During the Super Bowl, Best Buy premiered their ad mentioning Fifty Shades of Grey. Hmm, I wonder if we early rumors are true that we’ll get a trailer of Fifty Shades of Grey during the super bowl this year?
Fifty Shades of Grey merchandise rolled out all over the place:
Hardback books came to the US
Fifty Shades of Grey Fine Jewelry
Fifty Shades of Grey Lingerie for the UK and Ireland
Fifty Shades of Grey Lingerie for parts of Europe
Fifty Shades of Grey Lingerie for Australia
We of course spent about half the year speculating about who would direct Fifty Shades of Grey and then wondered who the heck Sam Taylor-Johnson was. Shortly after that came the news that they would be releasing the movie on August 1, 2014. Not so shortly after that the date got moved to February 13, 2015 – BOOO! And then the casting talk really heated up. But we had to wait until Labor Day to find out that Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam would play Ana or Christian. Only to a few weeks later hear that Charlie Hunnam was backing out. The stories swirled around as to why, but in the end it doesn’t matter. We have a new, and dare I say better, Christian Grey in Jamie Dornan. Casting after that was a bit slow but eventually picked up with announcements for Carla, Jose, Kate, Elliot, Mia, Ray, Bob, Grace and Taylor. Sorry if I missed anyone. Of course all the casting news did make for some funny TV on both SNL and Ellen Degeneres.
We got our first glimpse of Christian and Ana when they graced the cover of Entertainment Weekly. Of course that was just the beginning, the last weekend in November filming started and things went kinda crazy with photos and videos getting out. But, all those pictures and videos are giving out good vibes that Dakota and Jamie have the chemistry needed to be Christian and Ana.
So, what will 2014 bring? Hopefully some official pictures from the set, trailers and interviews with the cast. But also a Soiree for Fifty Shades fans in Seattle. Of course we would love to hear that Fifty Shades Darker has been approved to be made into a film and I know I wouldn’t mind if E L James got to finish her new book series. 2014 looks so promising!
