Book Review: Beautiful Disaster

BeautifulDisasterAfter hearing good things about the book Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire for a few months I finally broke down and read it last weekend.

When I started reading I was a bit turned off.  Travis does fight club, has tattoos and smokes: really?, ugh and gross!  In that order.  Oh, and he sleeps with pretty much any woman who offers, and then sends them home.  Geez!  Abby is a nice girl, but she has a past.

The setting is a small college in the Midwest, this book brought back good memories from college.  The crazy stuff you do in college, being up all night, last minute studying, the strange lines we draw in relationships.   Even the strange lunches they had reminded me of college.

Travis quickly falls for Abby (who he calls Pigeon), but she’s more stubborn.  What brings them together? A bet forcing them to spend too much time together.  In spite of the tattoos, smoking and girls I quickly fell for Travis.  Abby though, she’s a pain in the ass, no wonder he likes her.  She’s a bit slower with her love, tainted by her past.

These two are a roller coaster and their relationship makes Christian and Ana seem normal.  But they’re fun, passionate and make each other better people, most of the time.

If my synopsis hasn’t convinced you, then know I couldn’t put this book down.  I read a chapter or two on Saturday and then finished the book Sunday and Sunday night, instead of sleeping.  In April the story is coming out in Travis’ words, Walking Disaster. I can’t wait.

I too read this book and agree with your synopsis.  I am looking forward to Travis’s version due out this Spring.
I just finished reading book 1 & 2 of a 3 book series, This Man.  It did not pull me in as did our 50 but is still a good read.  Book 3 is due out this spring as well, I believe.

A friend just mentioned The Man to me last week, it’s now on my short list.
