Safe Words?

When Christian asks Ana to choose a safe word she chooses popsicle.  I found it an odd choice, too many syllables to get out in the heat of the moment.

So, I’m wondering if anyone is willing to admit what they would choose as a safe word.

In the interest of full disclosure, mine would be giraffe.  I like giraffes and I would have no trouble recalling it in a time of need.

I always thoughtbit was an awfully long word myself! But what I found interesting was the whole scene atbthe end of book 3 with Ted and the popcicle….was that some sort of message? Showing how innocent their life had become? I sont know, I always felt that scene had another message. Thoughts on that??

I think my safe word would be STOP. LOL!!

It’s all good, I’ve been on my phone a lot lately too.

Yea, I noticed the Popsicle thing when I was reading yesterday. I suspect it’s not an accident!

I don’t think it was an accident either…..EL James put in a lot of things like that….to the casual reader you wouldn’t even pick up on…..and I agree….no fun words for me…..it would be STOP!!!!!…ha, ha….

Oh wow, I didn’t even put that connection together! So what’s everyone’s thoughts on the meaning? I have no idea what safe word I would use. Can I just say…I loved when she finally safe worded him! Loved that she had it in her to say enough is enough! I finished the books almost a week ago now and was sooooo sad when I was done. Had been getting better but today I can’t stop thinking about them again! Haha. Ah EL James what have you done to us!

I agree w the connection at the end of book 3. I am rereading the series for sixth time and just got to the morning after bath tub scene…when she gives him a bj she didnt know what to do so she “sucked him hard like a popsicle “….there’s a nice oittle tie in to the whole innocence thing…maybe ber idea of a pvt joke? The innocence of also being married and may having to safe word for the first time, with her husband? I wouldn’t know what to use…maybe effin get off? Lol but im liking popsicle more n more lol

Um, hellll-ooo-ooo… Read the preceding context in the book! When Christian tells Ana to, “…choose a word… a safeword.”, she was looking at Christian’s arousal. Her choice of ‘popsicle’ really does make sense in this context, and also implies where her mind / thoughts were while she gazing…

For those of you chosing ‘Stop’ as your safe-word don’t get the point. In bdsm you choose a safe-word so the dominant really knows when you’ve had enough. Cause sometimes the submissive will say ‘stop’ and not really mean it (that whole damsal in destress kind of act). So you would need to choose a word that would never typically be uttered in the act, so popsicle works. My safe word has always been Dumbledore, because why else would i invoke the name of Hogwart’s former headmaster while having sex?

Ana was looking at his “popsicle” it seems when he asked her. BTW, SO glad I am not the only one rereading….. I read it twice. It isn’t even the sex, it’s the characters, how neither did the relationship thing so they are learning together. You just get attached! Honestly I think the level of shock on the sex depends on your experience. And a safe word …. Hmmm… Not sure… Maybe dragon? KP

If I had a safeword, Ocean, yeah that sounds like a good one to use…don’t think I would find myself in that sort of situation…lol

@shan1104, I totally agree, I finished the series in three days, and i was so incredibly sad when it was done. I need more! EL James HAS to write a fourth!!!! and the addiction wasn’t even about the sex scenes. to be honest, the sex scenes got a little tired after a while and i sped read through them. I was totally in awe of his love for her, his intensity. Made me shove my boyfriend of five years in annoyance, haha!!

I love fifty shades of grey. sex and all. I think you really just have to be mature enough to read it. My safe word would probley be something easy and quick to say. Maybe Tuna. HahA. Maybe not. That wouldn’t be attractive to yell out at that moment. I don’t know because I don’t think I would even tell Fifty to stop.

Where can I buy a t shirt. my safe word is more

  • Sonia Huff

    mine would be “fifty”
