I thought I would have a little fun with todays post and take a look at some of the other cars in Fifty Shades of Grey. I already covered the A3/Submissive Special and the R8 Spyder in previous posts.
VW Beatle – AKA Wanda
Anastasia’s poor college student car, it was purchased from Jose’s mother. It’s a light blue and has seen better days. There is no power steering; maybe it really was originally Jose’s mother’s mother’s car. It also had no light up vanity and was not drivable in stiletto heels.
Taylor disposed of poor Wanda; he’s said to have sold for good money as a classic car. If we go by Ana’s attachment to it, that is true. If we go by Christian’s standards, I suspect it’s at a dump being sold off for parts. But there truly is a market for VW Beetles, there are VW clubs across the country so who knows.
Mercedes CLK
The sporty car Katherine Agnes Kavanagh drives. Anastasia is known to borrow when Wanda isn’t up to a task, like when she needs to interview Christian Grey. The Mercedes CLK was the first coupe and convertible for the middle and wealthy classes offered by Mercedes. That translates into a sticker price of $45,000 – $60,000 new. However, the CLK was discontinued after 2009 and replaced by models in the E-Class. Since EL James originally started writing in 2009 this may have had no impact on its choice in the book.
The CLK came as a 2-door, 4-seater, enough for a college student. And after my extensive Internet research, I’m pretty sure the car only comes in silver.
