Breast Feeding the little ones or the BIG ONE!

Breast feeding has been a hot topic for the masses for years now, whether we are talking about breast feeding children versus using formula, age limits on how old your child should be when you start to wein them off, or if it even okay to breast feed in public.

What about the temptation for your significant other to imbibe during “Adult Time”? As Christian did with Ana in the Epilogue of Fifty Shades Freed.  For a couple that is used to breast play, is it just an added plus or is it inappropriate? Period!  What do you think,  can this make the bond stronger, or can the suggestion tear you apart?

Ladies and Gents, lets keep this as PG13 as you can.

Secretary The Movie

In preparation for Fifty Shades of Grey the movie, I have reviewed a few films that might give some insight into how the Fifty Shades movie might handle all the kinky sex.  There will be spoilers, consider yourself warned. Today I’ll start with the movie Secretary.

Secretary came out in 2002 and was directed by Steven Shainberg.  This movie is a little weird, it is set in, I think, the 70′s and stars Mr. Grey (E. Edward Grey).  Lee is the secretary and also happens to be a masochist.  Mr. Grey just happens to be a sadist. A match made in movie heaven.

The movie starts out with a preview of a scene that is in the middle of the movie and it might involve some kinky device.  We are quickly taken back to the beginning and getting to know Lee.  She’s got some issues, as in cutting herself…  She applies to be a secretary for Mr. Grey and is hired.

Edward and Lee have a strange relationship to start with, she socially awkward and he, well, turned on by her submissiveness.  Pretty quickly they endeavor on a BDSM relationship, much of which is implied.  Yes, there are some scenes that are not implied, but other then some spanking and masturbation, it’s a pretty clean movie given the subject matter. Except the closing scene, that’s pretty hot…

What the movie does well is show the sexual tension between Edward and Lee.  It shows how Edward starts to control Lee with his Dom/sub games and they endeavor on a BDSM relationship.  At the same time Lee start becomes a more stable person, more confident and less masochistic. And similar to how I wanted Christian and Ana to work out their weird relationship, you want Edward and Lee to too.

I got two things out of this movie.  You can have quite a bit of sex in a movie and still be Rated R (the pay off is at the end in this case) and you can imply a lot of stuff with camera angles…  You don’t need to make porn to have a good sex scene. Assuming you think porn has good sex scenes.

Have any of you seen the movie? What did you think?

Fifty Shades of Passion

50ShadesPB-9781623150358-Perfect_REV.indd

Those of you who have been following the site for a while might remember we did a Cover contest and giveaway for Fifty Shades of Passion a few months ago.

A few weeks ago I received my own copy from the publisher and I’m finally ready to write a review of Fifty Shades of Passion An Erotic Guide to Exploring Fifty Shades With Your Lover

The book is a guide of sorts about adding a little kink to your sex life.  So if you lived in a world of vanilla sex before Fifty Shades of Grey and want to spice things up, this might be the book for you.  Being a single woman, I haven’t had the opportunity to exercise my new knowledge from reading this book, but it has certainly answered some questions.

The book starts out discussing something not so sexy, safe sex.  But it’s necessary.  Just as Christian wants to be open with Ana and to discuss what she is open to and what she is not.  The book encourages the discussions you need to have with your lover before you start playing.

It’s more fun after that, tips on talking dirty, flirting and of course dressing up for the occasion.  The author gives some nice introductions to topics and tips, even categorizing them by levels of difficulty/commitment.  Other topics that are covered are exhibitionism, voyeurism, sensory deprivation, spanking, flogging, role-playing and much, much more.

What I like about the book is that each chapter has an introduction telling you about the action and why you might like it and then helps you visualize the idea beyond what you’ve read in Fifty Shades of Grey.  Then it goes into tips, tricks and toys for the topic, followed by ideas for different levels of activities.

There are also sections on being a Dom and a sub.  While these aren’t guides to either role, it does provide some basic advice to help you figure out if that might be a role for you as well as a few tips on what is expected.

The book ends with a nifty glossary of terms, I’ve seen some more detailed ones, but this one will have you covered until you decide to fully engage in the BDSM lifestyle.

I think this is a great book for anyone who wants to or has started to explore some of the kinkier things that were mentioned on Fifty Shades of Grey.  The book is well written, and a lot better then some of the sites on the internet.  There is no author listed on the book, but the website for the book is relationship coach.

Fifty Shades of Grey In The Media – January 2013

I’ve decided for 2013 I wanted to make a change in my writing of the Fifty Shades of Grey in the Media posts, where I talk about some of the smaller, but mentionable media stories.  Instead of doing one every week or so as stories come out, I’ve decided to make one for each month and then update it as stories come out.  Then I’ll just add the new stories to the top and change the date of posting to reflect when I posted the most recent article. We do have a few other things up our sleeves for this year, some you’ll notice, some you wont.

  • Fifty Shades of Grey made the top 10 list of wikipedia searches in 2012.
  • Digital Book World reports that the top 6 ebooks for 2012 were from the Hunger Games trilogy and Fifty Shades of Grey.  No surprise here, in spite of the interesting combination.
  • It seems E L James if the highest earning author in Ireland.  Again, I have to say I’m not terribly surprised about this.
  • Victoria’s Secret had mentioned a while ago that they were working on a Fifty Shades Unofficial line.  According to an article from Gather that line is expected to come out once the movie is cast.
  • On Tuesday, January 22 at 9PM EST on E! there will be a special about the Dom/sub lifestyle… Yes, my Tivo is set.
  • Ian Somerhalder has addressed the rumors about him playing Christian. In a Fanshare article he has said he is interested in the part but that at this point there is nothing official going on, just talk.  Sorry Ian fans!
  • According to Yahoo News, in Brazil (I think it’s happening in other places too) Fifty Shades of Grey has been pulled off of book store shelves until the books can be sealed and kept out of the prying eyes of children.  Ummm, there are lots of other sexy books on the shelves, do they need to be sealed?  AND, reading about sex and looking at pictures of naked woman in playboy – not the same thing!
  • According to The Telegraph, it seems that Fifty Shades of Grey hasn’t just impacted sex toy sales, but also wine sales.  Specifically South Africa’s Constantia dessert wine that is mentioned in Fifty Shades Darker and drank at the masquerade ball.
  • James Franco has made a documentary about Kink, the worlds largest producer of BDSM pornography.  I believe this is being shown at Sundance.  Cafe Stir has a preview of it.
  • SPANK! The Fifty Shades Parody is headed to New Orleans.  It will be playing at Harrah’s from March 5 to March 17th!
  • 50 Shades The Musical is going to Raleigh, NC in April at the Progress Energy Theatre.  Tickets are on sale.
  • This article is actually a graduate paper on consumerism in Fifty Shades of Grey.  Interesting if you’re into that type of analysis.

“The Real 50 Shades of Grey” on E!

According to TV by the numbers, and my Tivo guide, on Tuesday, January 22 at 9PM ET/PT there will be a special about the Dom/sub lifestyle:

Los Angeles, CA January 17, 2013 – Whether shock, excitement or simply curiosity, it seems that everyone has a strong reaction to the bestselling erotic book trilogy that includes Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. Having sold more than 60 million copies worldwide, the series set the record as the fastest-selling paperback of all time. What is it about the provocative lifestyle of the protagonists that has readers throughout the world riveted? Is it the non-traditional sex, the excitement of the unknown, or simply the story of love between two people expressed in a unique way? Hosted by E!’s Alicia Quarles, this one-hour special features commentary from therapists, authors and other experts about the practice, and also profiles the real-life experiences of couples who follow this lifestyle. Don’t miss a fascinating look at what used to be a very secret world in the E! Special “The Real 50 Shades of Grey” premiering Tuesday, January 22 at 9:00pm ET/PT, only on E!

My Tivo is set, is yours?

Safe, Sane and Consensual?

I while back I wrote a post about why I didn’t think teens should read Fifty Shades of Grey.  I thought, and still think that there are some girls who will get the wrong impression about relationships and sex from this series.  I do agree that many can and do read it and just enjoy the story and don’t get caught up in what can seem to be conflicting messages in the books.  At the time I couldn’t quite put my finger on the exact issue, but could sense it, particularly for those who did not finish the series and see the relationship between Ana and Christian fleshed out.

I was just reading an article about violence in the BDSM community with a focus on college students.  The article talks about how girls are becoming interested in BDSM and starting to experiment, no problem there. But, a lot of woman are finding themselves the victim of sexual assaults in the course of their experimentation.  To further complicate the issue, it’s being done under the guise of BDSM where the line of “Safe, Sane and Consensual” may not be as clear to the less experienced.

I have not delved into the world of BDSM, but seem to find myself reading quite a bit about it these days, research purposes of course.  But I’m seeing two issues.

First, younger, less experience woman don’t know their boundaries.  In theory this shouldn’t be a problem, but the nature of BDSM seems to be pushing your boundaries.  If you don’t know your boundaries how do you (or your Dom/sub) know how to push them?  When you’re in a relationship this might be easier to build to, but if you’re just going to a party and meet a cute Dom, I could see how this could quickly go wrong.

The other issue is the nature of pushing boundaries.  Between Christian and Ana, you can see that Christian is clearing trying to find (and push) Ana’s boundaries and is very adamant about her understanding and using a safe word.  In Darker he really takes a step back when he realizes she’s not “reliable” about using a safe word.  Just like Ana, I think some of these girls who are new to the community don’t know what is normal for them or what is normal for the BDSM community and findout out that was their limit was too late.  If a Dom is trying something on you and you’re not comfortable with; but, think it’s a normal interaction, then they’re probably less likely to safe world and then end up being abused.

What’s the answer?  Well it’s not that Fifty Shades of Grey should be censured.  The answer really lies within the BDSM community and with the people playing in it.  But it does emphasis the point that anyone entering the community, particularly those with less sexual experience, really need to be careful about communicating what they are and are not comfortable with and then feel the freedom to safe word when their limit is pushed to far.

Fifty Shades of Grey in the Media

The Examiner reports that E L James was honored at “Women of the Year” event in London on Monday.  Erika did Tweet about the event live, including posting some pictures she had taken of some of the woman, particularly of TeamGB.  Congratulations to Erika and all the woman honored.

A law firm, McEntegart Legal Limited, in Liverpool has created a contract for partners.  For 1.99 pounds you can purchase and personalize your contract.  You can add “bonuses” for behavior, and I wonder if you are able to add punishment too.  It’s designed to be a fun contract for couples.  Perhaps it can open dialog for couples too.

John Grisham thinks that President Obama should read Fifty Shades of Grey.  Apparently he should have some fun too.  I don’t mind if he reads, but he might not want to tell the press.
