Meet: Fifty Shades of Grey and More

What is your name?

Monique Lain

How did you come to read Fifty Shades of Grey?

In a very rare (for me) moment of “booklessness” I caught the tail end of an intriguing interview about it. Not knowing exactly what I was getting myself into I decided to check it out and the rest – as they say – is history.

Did you read an actual book or an ebook?

FSOG happened to be the first ebook I bought and read on my iPad and since then, I’ve never looked back. You gotta’ love buying a book with a single click then reading it within seconds – what bliss!

Which is your favorite book in the series?

It’s almost impossible for me to choose but if I absolutely had to it would be the last one, Freed.

What is your favorite scene in the series?

Scene, as in singular? Are you kidding? Uhm, well apart from every time Christian throws Ana over his shoulder and every time he’s insanely, unreasonably jealous and possessive the best I can do is narrow it down to two. The scene where he gives her hickeys on their honeymoon in retaliation for going topless and the short dress scene in Aspen. Oh boy, that was delicious!

How many times have you read the series?

Just once! (Blush)… Okay, maybe twice?…. Oh, all right! I lost count at eight, cover to cover, back to back….. It’s bad I know! What can I say? I wanted… more…

Outside of Fifty Shades of Grey, what is your favorite book or series?

I adore Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series and recently discovered, thanks to one of my readers, the Jodi Ellen Malpas’ This Man series – intense but highly addictive.

Are you married, dating, or single?

I’m married to the best guy! He proof reads my work but lately I’ve been hearing mumblings about how much better he thinks it would be if I threw in a couple of aliens! Mmmhhh, not sure my readers would go for that though; I must admit that hubby reading Fifty Shades Meander does come with some inherent benefits… (Wink, wink)

Who would you like to see play Christian and Anastasia in the movie?

For Christian I’m a big Jesse Pavelka fan but I’ll settle for Ian Somerhalder, if only for those eyes…

For Ana I’m a little more flexible but I like Kristen Kreuk and Alexis Bledel for the part.

If you were to meet E L James today, what 2 questions would you ask her?

How far are you with the next book??

When is it being released??

When did you start your website/fanpage?

I started on Fanfiction in May 2012 but moved to my own site in October of the same year.

What is the goal or mission of your fanpage/website?

Apart from keeping the FSOG story alive I wanted to communicate with my readers. We share books and the various shades of obsessions, we chat and we have a laugh. It’s so much more personal than Fanfiction messaging. I feel like they’ve become friends. If publication happens to come along, well then, that would be just dandy!

Fifty Shades Fan Fiction

I thought I would take a few moments to mention a few of the Fifty Shades of Grey Fan Fiction sites out there.  I’ll avoid commenting about the writing since we all have a slightly different view of the books and how the characters would think and act.  But, I wont post anything that is complete crap either.  Although most of the sites already state this, Fifty Shades FanFic is generally for adult audiences of 18 or older.

Bale4FiftyOver at Color Me GREYsessed, Michele fills in some of the Fifty Shades of Grey gaps and continues on some of the fun between Christian and Ana. Site Description: Welcome to Color Me Greysessed! My name is Michele and I am so happy you’re visiting my blog.  I’m cupcake crazy (Oh Baked Goodness! my home biz), Stella & Dot stylist, and live my life by a “Go Big or Go Home” attitude. This blogging thing has been so much fun and I hope you enjoy reading my posts. I am a self-proclaimed caffeine addict, runner, shopaholic, movieholic, and GREYsessed with all things Fifty Shades! Loving the idea of connecting with others and I hope you will follow me as I blog my way thru this crazy thing called life. Laters, baby© You can learn more about Michele from the interview we conducted in January.

FiftyShadesofGreyandmoreFifty Shades of Grey and More starts when Ana finds out she is pregnant and takes the story in a whole different direction. Site DescriptionIf – like me – you wanted more after you read the Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy, this blog is for you. I write fan fiction based on E L James’ gripping books and more. Fifty Shades Meander is a multi chapter story that continues in the same vein as the originals and, along with some one shot stories, are found in the side bar that’s updated weekly. Fifty Shades of Taylor starts with the hiring of Taylor. There isn’t a site description.  But, on Jane’s website you can see her wider collection of Fan fiction and info on original stories she’s written.

facebook fansite-1A Walk in the Clouds writes the series and more from Christian’s POV.  It is also available on the site in French! Site Description: When EL James wrote the final installment of her “50 Shades” trilogy, I was saddened. I loved the characters and wanted to retell the story from Christian’s POV with his emotions. But this is a blog and not a book-sort of a tribute to the characters in the trilogy as well as the author herself. It’s my humble work I put out for all of your enjoyment in a limited time. A snack between meals: Sinful and tasty. Hope you will forgive my shortcomings. Enjoy, leave a comment. Let’s talk of Greys.

HandcuffsMeet Fifty Shades… Christian Grey’s POV… Taking over from Christian’s POV where E L James left off.  Site Description: This is the story told from Christian Grey’s POV. I follow the timeline of the books and tell the whole story from his POV. I take off where EL James left at the end of “Fifty Shades Freed” with the interview seen through Christian’s eyes.

266908715386890392_4hclM1iZ_f_edited-1ChristianGreyPOV is obviously a Christian Grey POV site.  Most of the recent writing is flashbacks by Christian.  Site Description: I hope to bring a bit of insight into my fucked up world. As the battle between what I know I should do, and what my heart tells me it wants, I will take you all on this journey with me as my story unfolds.

Meet Fifty Shades Continued is from Christian’s POV and and starts pretty much at the beginning of the series.   Site Description:  Welcome to my fanfiction blog for ‘Meet Fifty Shades Continued’. This follows on from where E L James left off at the end of the Trilogy, recounting the story from Christian’s point of view. My story used to be on the FanFiction site but was removed for being too explicit. Of course all the original stories and characters belong to E L James. I’m just borrowing them for fun and not for profit. Please refer to the Legals page for full details.

Fifty Shades of Grey and Baby Makes Three – Continues the story from Ana’s POV.  Site Description: Fan fiction of what happens after Fifty Shades Freed. Ana, Christian, and Teddy have settled into a happy family life and all is calm…but will it remain that way? I do not own FSOG or the characters, but the story line is mine.

SashaCameronFifty Shades of Tribute – Mostly Sasha tells the story of Kate and Elliot. Site Description: Lovers of E.L.James’ Fifty Shades of Grey are creating tributes all around the world.  This is another one.  The original story line and characters belong to E.L James.  I just like to mess with their heads!  Please check out my stories on FanFic.net.  This site has mature content.  Over 18 years only, please.

Happy Reading!

Fifty Shades of Fanfiction OH MY!…

Finding myself in the throws of a sleepless night (and not in a good way), last night and lacking any new reading material on my iPad or Kindle to get me through the night, I recalled a conversation I had a little while ago with Crissy about, among other things, Fanfiction.

In my younger days I may or may not have a read and written some fanfic about a short-lived series on the WB (now the CW) which I never, ever published online and am sure I burned long ago (at least I hope- my memory isn’t as good as it once was). Anyway, it had been a long time since I actually read any fanfic, so after a quick search, I found all the fic fit to read- and some that wasn’t.

I spent the next hour or so, skimming through a number of stories, some one-shot, some multi-chaptered and  some seried.  I have to say that while I did find a few that were not (in my opinion) of the best quality, I found even more that were down right entertaining, making me want to read more from the author.

It takes a lot of hutzpah (or balls-possibly silver) to put yourself and your work out there for others to read and judge.  You open yourselves to criticism from people you’ve never met and might not get what you were trying to go for with the story.  I for one am impressed that so many people out there are willing to do that.

Bravo to you all!  Keep it up, your either good now, or will continue to improve as you write.

What stories would you like to read more about?  Maybe something about the newly growing family of Christian, Ana and Teddy, or how about a one shot spin-off of sorts about how Ms. Robinson feels now that her relationship with Christian has been outed to Grace and the family?  I can go on and on about stories I want to read.  What are yours?

Meet: Color Me Greysessed!

For our newest Fifty Shades of Grey Community Interview we decided to interview Michele from Color Me Greysessed who we had the pleasure of meeting at the Katie Couric show.

How did you come to read Fifty Shades? I was watching the Today Show, and they did a piece on the books. They talked about how they were all the rage with women. I was intrigued and downloaded them immediately.

Did you read them on a book or ebook? I downloaded them to my iPad, but since then have bought all 3 books as well!

What’s your favorite book in the series? My favorite is definitely the first book. I just love a book with sexual tension, and EL definitely delivers that!

My favorite scene in the book: Well, there’s a few. But one that always sticks out is the “fuck the paperwork” scene. I didn’t see it coming, and those words were just hot! And I love the emails throughout the series! I think they are intimate, hilarious, and such a unique element to the books.

Outside of Fifty Shades of Grey, what is your favorite book or series? I was/am a huge Twilight fan. That was another series that I read multiple times. I have also been to Forks/Seattle/Lapush to visit all the places from both book series. Right now I am loving Alice Clayton’s work. Her books are such a fun read and she’s got a great flair for comedy. Before Fifty Shades, I hadn’t read much “kink.” I loved the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series, and I also love a good thriller. But as of late, it’s been a lot of kinky reading for me ;)

How many times have you read the series? I have read the series 5 times and now get bits and pieces of reading as I refer to the books often for my blog. The first time around I read all three books in 2 days. I willingly lose sleep when I get into a book. I am not good at delayed gratification! I need to know how it ends asap!

Who would you like to see play Christian and Anastasia in the movie? Well, anyone that follows me on Twitter, knows from my twitter handle that I am a huge Christian Bale fan. And I can now come to terms that he is never going to be cast. Yes, he is too old but in terms of acting ability-he’d be perfect! I don’t envy Team Fifty when it comes to casting. Looks are important but whoever they cast has to be able to bring it to the Red Room. Christian Grey is a complex character, so just a pretty face isn’t going to fill those ripped jeans! I can’ t specifically say who else besides The Dark Knight that I’d like to see as Christian. I have a few I wouldn’t mind seeing but keeping hush…too many friends with too many opinions;)

If I could ask EL two questions what would they be? I have had the pleasure of meeting E L twice this year! Once in Maryland for a book signing and again at the Katie Show this past fall. Both times I gave her my Fifty Shades-inspired cupcakes and got to make small talk with her. But if I had actual time to sit and talk with her, I’d ask which character in the book represents her. She has hinted at that and would love to know the answer! The other question I would ask is if I could be an assistant on the set of the movie. Why not, right? I think having a super fan on the set is a great way for instant feedback from the fans. Yes, a far-fetched question but I am a “go big or go home” kinda gal!

When did you start your blog? I started Color Me Greysessed this past summer. Someone suggested that I start one to talk about the numerous book related trips I have taken. And that indeed is how it began. The first few posts talk about the many adventures that I have been on with my BFF Kelly. Again with my “go big or go home” mentality, why just love the books when you can live out the books? We have traveled to Forks twice, LaPush, Oregon (where Twilight was actually filmed) and to our beloved Seattle where yes, I have kissed the Escala. Since starting the blog, it has definitely evolved into something “different”. I never intended on turning my blog into a series of kinky stories, mirrored in the writing of E L James, but it has. Months ago I did an online poll where you voted for your Christian, Ana, place to have sex, etc. The winners of the poll then got put into a story written by me. From that point on, I realized that I loved writing stories about Fifty Shades. Like so many of us, I was having Fifty Shades withdrawal. These stories help fill the void until the movie comes out. But reader beware: they are very kinky!

What are my goals for your webpage? Never did I think that my blog would be what it is today. I have loyal readers and a growing number of people who have signed up to receive it through email. I have been blessed with meeting wonderful people because of the blog and through Twitter. Aside from meeting Ms. James, I have also met Dana Brunetti, the producer of the movies and of course the Laters Baby women! My hopes are that although E L probably has not read my blog, that it would be considered one that shows my utmost respect for her and her work. I try to keep in line with the characters she created, and the format of her books. Because of these books, I have found a love of writing and a renewed love for reading.

Thank you Michele!

And for those of you who aren’t regular readers of Color Me Greysessed, I would like to suggest the 12 Days of Kinkmas.

Twilight Fan Fiction Gone Wild

Simon and Schuster has announced a new book series, The Office series with Beautiful Bastard and Beautiful Stranger.  It’s another series of Twilight Fan Fiction and it’s far from being the first Twilight Fan Fic to be published by a major publisher.  And it was also announced right before the final installment of the Twilight movies, Breaking Dawn Part 2, comes out in theatres.

This is obviously part of the continued attempt to find the next big thing.  If one series of Twilight Fan Fic made it big then others will do well to.  I’m sure the book will sell, just as others have.  But, I think this shows a bit of the lack of understanding of publishers of the phenomenon.

Fifty Shades of Grey started as a word of mouth phenomenon when it was still Fan Fic and continued to grow when it transitioned to Fifty Shades of Grey.  But at some point in that transition the fact that it was Fan Fic took the back burner.  I heard about it from my sister in March, who heard about it from her friends – no one knew it was Fan Fic until I told them.

While the Fan Fic aspect is what got Fifty Shades of Grey going initially, I’ve had enough conversations with fans to know that it’s not the reason for the phenomenon it became.  There is simply an infectious quality to the books that no amount of marketing can match.  Whether its the descriptions in the book or that bazaar feeling that you want these two unlikely characters to work it out, the reason for the phenomenon is not because it’s Twilight Fan Fic.  While I’m glad Fifty Shades of Grey has opened up publishers to look at different sources of literature, I think they’re still working within the box, it’s just a larger box then before.  It’s time the publishers started working outside the box too.

Fifty Shades of Grey in the Media

Niall Leonard, E L James’ husband, did an interview with Thestar.com, not to be confused with STAR, the trashy magazine.  What I liked about this article is that we find out that one of the scenes that they acted out (though I think this was a choreography thing, not a sex thing) was the car scene.

Thank you Ruffles & Restraints!

E L James answered a question with Katie’s Social Wall and said she has a cameo role in the books.  I’ll answer what role at the bottom of the post incase you want to look first yourself.

In this article from StarTribune we learn that the “L” in E L James is for her middle name.  I always assumed it was for Leonard, but you know what happens when you assume.

On Monday night Erika had an event in Soho House in New York City, entry into the event required wearing a handcuff.  My favorite line from the Business Insider article is that her friend said “Oh, you dark, dark horse,” in regards to her writing the novel. She’s also working on re-writing her first book and would like to write a paranormal romance in the future.

And to lighten the mood we’ll end with the Fifty Shades of Chicken parody cookbook by FL Fowler.  Who ever created this is creative, just check out the description.

According to @E_L_James smilies on twitter, she is in Fifty Shades Darker at the Fairmont Olympic with the westies.
