My E L James Authorgraph

A couple weeks ago on Twitter I saw someone mention an Authorgraph, curious I visited the website and ordered my own Authorgraph. 

The site only provides the basic information you need to get an Authorgraph, and no more.  Choose a book, give your email address and name and hit send.  Beyond that we have no information on the process.  It took a few weeks for me to receive my Authorgraph, but it was worth it.  You can create a document out of it and print it or post it to your blog. 

FreedAuthorgraphI choose to get the Authorgraph of Fifty Shades Freed because I already got Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker autographed at other book signings.  I thought this would be a great addition to my collection.  But if you live somewhere that E L Jame has not been, it would be a great subsitute.  

Of course you can get other books authorgraphed too, or if you’re an Author you can submit your own books to the site.

The Amazing Jason Taylor

We know from the books that Ana is quite fond of Taylor and that Christian must be too if he’s paying for Taylor’s daughters school tuition in an effort to keep him around.  Ana thinks, and I agree, that Taylor must like Christian too.  Taylor does tell Ana that he’s a good man early in Fifty Shades of Grey.

And what isn’t their to like about Taylor, he is a bit of a super hero.  Ana comments to Christian that Taylor takes good care of him.  But he also takes good care of Ana too, he’s a bit like The Hulk when Jack tries to get in Ana’s pants – you wont like him when he’s angry!  And I could only imagine the scene at the end of Freed (I wont spoil this for readers who didn’t get that far), but he might have actually turned green and ripped out of his clothing.

Taylor has a bit of Superman in him too.  He always seems to be there when you need him.  For example: when Christian and Ana go to Aspen he takes them to the airport, even escorts them onto the plane.  When they arrive in Aspen he is there waiting with the rental van.  Feats no mere mortal could do, yet the amazing Jason Taylor can do it.  And we love him for it.

Lions, Tigers, and Horses OH MY!…

According to the website Entertainmentwise.com , E.L James, who is currently worth approximately 32 million dollars, recently splurged on what is certain to be the first of 3 colts.  The first colt has recently been purchased and is said to be name “Fifty Shades of Grey”.  The other 2 colts, to be bought in the upcoming year will round out “Team Fifty”.  Each horse is allegedly going to be named after each one of E.L’s books.

I don’t know about you gals and guys, but I’m sure her kids would prefer another type of horse, as in horse power, under the hood of an R8 maybe?

Congrats on the purchase of the first of your 3 colts E.L.. May they be as swift as Ana when she is out maneuvering the unknown stalker!

BTW people, what would you name the horses?  Keep of clean!

Madonna and Child Paintings

MadonnaandChildWhen Ana first enters Christian’s foyer she comments on the huge bunch of white flowers and that there are paintings on the wall, everywhere.

In Fifty Shades Darker we find out that they are “all figurative painting, all religious-the Madonna and child, all sixteen of them.” We also find out that Christian isn’t religious and the paintings in great room are abstracts.  These paintings are not an accident.

Later in Fifty Shades Darker Christian and Ana have sex “under the patient, maternal eyes of the Madonna paintings.” Incase you’ve forgotten, this is after the elevator ride after visiting the Mile High Club.

The last time the Madonna’s are mentioned is in Fifty Shades Freed.  After Ana goes out with Kate while Christian is in NY and Jack gets caught in the Apt.  The following day when she arrives home, nervous about how Christian will react, she comments about the foyer, “The table is once more upright and in a new vase is in place with a gorgeous array of pale pink and white peonies. I quickly check the paintings as we wander through-the Madonnas all look to be intact.” Christian then takes Ana into the Red Room of Pain.

For those unaware of the symbolism of Madonna and child – they represent Mary (the virgin) and her son, Jesus.

The number 16 is not the most significant number in Christianity, but it certainly shows up in a lot of places. Several websites say the number 16 means love – Love never fails.  The number also comes up in other places, such as the number of apostles, and the number of years it took to write the 4 gospels, and the age when Mary had Jesus.

Mags, Jill and I have discussed this a bit and here are some of the theories we came up with:

They represent Christian’s love for his mother, and her love for him, even though he doesn’t recognize it.

His desire for a virginal woman (Ana) as opposed to his prostitute mother.

He’s quietly mocking his mother, his own inside joke as people enter his apartment.
On Twitter @teacheduk8 suggested it might have to do with the number of submissives he has had.

I’m not a very religious person and I’m not looking to start and in-depth conversation about religion, but I’m not quite sure I can wrap my brain around the possibilities of this.

Where is Dr. Flynn when you need him? So, what theory do you have on this?

Safe Words?

When Christian asks Ana to choose a safe word she chooses popsicle.  I found it an odd choice, too many syllables to get out in the heat of the moment.

So, I’m wondering if anyone is willing to admit what they would choose as a safe word.

In the interest of full disclosure, mine would be giraffe.  I like giraffes and I would have no trouble recalling it in a time of need.

Happy Mothers Day!

NorthJersey.com has a nice article about Fans vs Critics.  No matter what the critics say, the author wins if the people like it.

EOnline wants to know if Fifty Shades needs and advisory sticker.  First, do we normally label erotica?  Second, doesn’t that start to fall under the category of censorship?  Anyone have thoughts on that?

The New York Times Bestseller list shows Fifty Shades of Grey taking up 4 spots – 1, 2, 3 and 8 with the whole trilogy.
