I’m lacking inspiration today, but decided I wanted to post something. So I opened up Fifty Shades Darker and decided to read the page that was up on the screen of my Kindle. Ana has found Leila in her apartment…
“But master is happy. I have seen him. He laughs and smiles. These reactions are rare… very rare for him.”
“You look like me.” Leila changes tack, surprising me, her eyes seeming truly to focus on me for the first time. “Master likes obedient ones who look like you and me. The others, all the same… all the same… and yet you sleep in his bed. I saw you.”
I loved/hated this scene when I first read it. It’s in the middle of the book so you know nothing too crazy is going to happen. Of course that assumes you’re being rational about your reading, and I was not when I first read this. The tension, the excitement. The revelations.
Ok, none of the revelations are shocking, Ana knew that Christian liked to beat brown haired girls, knew he never slept in a bed with them and knew that Leila had watched her in bed. But in this one scene she’s truly confronted with it. It’s in her face, along with a gun.
As a reader the scene could go so many different ways:
Will Leila shoot Ana? Probably not.
Where is Ethan? We barely knew him, who really cared?
When will Christian come in? What else will be revealed? I wanted more information, maybe Leila would reveal some secret about Christian?
Nope! Instead we got carried out of the apartment! GAHHHH! Of course it lead to the big reveal, but we had to go out for drinks first. But I’m an in the moment kind of girl, I didn’t want to drinks, I wanted answers, NOW!
What did you think was going to happen? I’ll admit I didn’t know, I got stuck in the moment and had blinders on.
