After many people recommended Captive In the Dark by CJ Roberts, I finally relented and read it and loved it. I will warn readers that it is a dark story, not for the faint of heart, but absolutely worth the read if you enjoy that.
I want to start by saying that the writing is great, CJ takes great care to describe how each character feels, she doesn’t just tell us, we feel it with them. She also make a mean and terrible character loveable, always a difficult task. So even though I should hate Caleb, I like him and want Livvie to be with him.
The story itself is suspenseful, I did NOT sleep well while I was reading this. Between the tension of the book and wondering what was happening to the characters, it was a few nights of restless sleep. A good sign, but something to be careful of if you go to read the book during a busy time.
The funny thing though, I met CJ Roberts at the Emerald City Author Event, and she’s a happy friendly girl. I wouldn’t expect such darkness from her.
Well I’m off to read Seduced in the Dark now, the second book in the series.
