This past Saturday night Crissy, Jill and I made our way past Times Square to the Actors Temple Theater at 339 West 47th Street in Manhattan to see Cuff Me: The Fifty Shades of Grey Unauthorized Musical Parody .
When you first walk into the building the first thing I noticed is that the location is an actual Temple, the second thing I noticed is the walls on stage covered in sex toys and BDSM items!
We had Mezzanine level tickets, which would have been perfect, but we were a little too far back and sometimes it was a challenge even for the non-vertically challenge to see all that was taking place on stage.
I found the actual musical itself to be quite funny! I thought the actors who played Ana, Christian and Kate were appropriately inappropriate. There was even a sighting or 3 of Ana’s Inner Goddess.
Anyone who can belt out parodies of popular hit songs from Britney Spear’s ‘Hit Me One More Time,’ and Madonna’s ‘Like A Virgin’ to Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ while spoofing the Fifty Shades of Grey book is okay by me.
The play is written by Bradford McMurran, Jeremiah Albers, and Sean Michael Devereux of the improv group The Pushers. It was conceived by Tim Flaherty, who is also a contributing author along with Sonya Carter who is directing. The cast features Matthew Brian Bagley, Laurie Gardner, Alex Gonzalez and Tina Jensen. If you happen to be in the area and have a chance, spend a couple of hours at the Actor Temple with your Inner Goddess and friends.
