According to MuggleCast, a reporter for The Sunday Times tweeted that she had read The Cuckoo’s Calling and enjoyed it. Someone on twitter said it was written by JK Rowling, then the twitter account mysteriously disappeared along with the tweets. But it was enough to make The Sunday Times curious and they ran the book through one of those analyzers and it showed to be a match to JK’s writing. They contacted the JK Rowling camp who confirmed the book was written by JK Rowling.
What does this have to do with E L James and Fifty Shades of Grey? Nothing really, I was just bored. Joking, I’m not bored with EL or Fifty Shades of Grey. It got me thinking about some articles that came out some time ago that E L James would write her next book under a pseudonym. I find the idea kind of intriguing, but I also know that these pseudonyms are often discovered. So, what is the point?
JK’s story is that she wanted to see how a book would do without the name attached and it did get good ratings, but it didn’t sell well. JK’s team also said that they anticipated it would eventually come out, but not so soon.
In the case of E L James she has enough money from Fifty Shades of Grey so she doesn’t need another book to sell big to pay her bills. Erika also doesn’t seem like the type to have changed her everyday lifestyle at home significantly. Basically, her goals in writing are not to pay her bills, but because she enjoys it.
While Fifty Shades of Grey has a large fan base who loved the books, there has also been a lot of negative reviews about the series, everything from her grammar to her portrayal of Christian as a pedophile. Writing a book with her own name on it will bring the attention of everyone, the lovers and the haters. Erika has also said numerous times that she writes for herself, and encourages others to do the same. She’s also pretty shy, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind writing a book and not having to deal with the press, the fans, the haters and all the chaos that goes with a book launch.
On the other hand, Erika has been pretty up front about working on a new 2 book series. Don’t start looking for a book yet, she plans to finish both books before publishing and is only editing the first book. She also has some work to do on the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. But, now I’m wondering what she did between finishing Fifty Shades Freed and now? At one time she had mentioned having drafts of some stories she had written and needed some editing. Hmmmm…
I think the real question isn’t if she will, but rather, if she already has?
(I do not have any insider knowledge, just some fun speculation)
