Thursday night in LA I had an opportunity to see Fifty Shades Freed at a fan screening thanks to Official Fifty. Cast was there, and like most events came in, thanked up, then left. A few of the cast and crew watched with us and I hope our reactions lived up to their expectations.
Who was in attendance? Nelson Coates, Shay Cunliffe, Brant Daugherty, Eloise Mumford, Arielle Kebbel, Ashleigh LaThrop, Dana Brunetti, Robinne Lee, and I’m sure I’m missing a person or two, sorry about that.
I’ll start with, I loved the movie.
As with all the films, it goes too fast and they cut out some scenes. But it kept true to the heart of the story.
Acting – Jamie and Dakota were, as expected, great! Ashleigh LaThrop who plays Hannah was a pleasant surprise and stole a scene or two in her own right. Brant was also great, I always feel bad for Sawyer though, it’s tough having to protect Ana and get paid by Mr. Grey.
The music was fantastic, Universal has consistently done a great job with the soundtrack and this was no exception.
Length, I know everyone is talking about the movie being too short, I think it was an hour and forty minutes. While I would have been happier with a longer movie, I think it was well edited to get all of the main things in the story, while still cutting quite a bit too. Of course I would have liked more in it, but understand the logistics of making a film. I think there is a lot that will make the Directors cut.
I know many people were calling Thursday night a premiere, but it was a fan event. Erika briefly introduced Foley, Jamie, Dakota and the actors in the audience then they all disappeared. There was another screening across from our screening. Erika, Foley, Jamie, and Dakota did not go in there from what I heard.
After there was a cocktail reception with a Mr. Grey and Mrs. Grey drink. I had the Mrs. Grey and it was delicious, then we took some photos at the Fifty Shades Freed sign. I somehow missed all the food that was served. There were no actors in attendance, mostly just fans and others who had gotten tickets to the event.
If you see the film early, I’d love to hear what you thought in the comments. Please no spoilers until after the official film release.
