What is this, Star Wars or Empire Records? The Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy seems to have given the major bookstore Barnes and Noble a greater than expected quarter, partially due to all of you readers out there that purchased a Nook copy of E.L James books.
I admit that I love my e-reader, I love that I can bring it with me anywhere and have hundreds of books to read. My first copy of these books, and the version I read the most (strictly for research now) is on my e-reader. But there is something to be said for the paperback (and hardcover for that matter).
While on vacation earlier this summer, I found myself wanting to read while I was in the hot tub. Long story short, I wound up having to dry out my e-reader for days before it would turn on again, and even now it gives me trouble. The worst that could happen with a paperback is that you let it dry and then the book curls a little.
Barnes and Noble has a better than expected quarter now and next year they go the way of Borders bookstores and start phasing out their brick and mortar store, winding up with an online only existence.
Its just like that song “Video Killed the Radio Star”, you need to appreciate the old with the new…
Just keeping it real people!
