Maureen is one of those ladies that I have slowly gotten to know over Twitter and another lady that I’m excited to meet in Seattle at the Fifty Soiree.
What is your name? Maureen Fuller
Where are you from? Boise, Idaho
How did you come to read Fifty Shades of Grey?
I initially read Fifty Shades of Grey in the June of 2012. I had heard all the buzz surrounding the book and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. It fell into my lap during the perfect time for me. My husband had suddenly been given a 16 month out of state assignment at work. I had two teenage sons at the time, the younger one having autism. I was feeling extremely stressed as to how I was going to manage “holding down the fort” per se. Of course, I was also thinking, as many wives of traveling husbands think….okay, good, I can watch what I want on TV, eat when and what I want and read as much as I want!
Like so many, the minute I started reading FSOG, I was hooked. It was unlike any book I had ever read before. My life was changed. Notice I have not mentioned my neglected housework or keeping track of the kids? I read it at stop lights in the car. I read it in every waiting room during my son’s therapies. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! Of course, the minute I finished the trilogy the first time, I started over at the beginning to catch any little detail I may have missed. Long story short, it made my husbands absence so much easier. I had Christian, after all. Needless to say though, when my husband came home every few weeks, well, wink…wink…
Did you read an actual book or an ebook?
I read the paperback books I purchased from our local grocery store. Who knew you could buy erotic romance and mayo in the same purchase. I was thrilled!
Which is your favorite book in the series?
Love them all, but I will choose Darker because it’s the book in which Christian and Ana fall deeply in love.
What is your favorite scene in the series?
Hmmm…this is a tough one, but I will say that my favorite scene is Christian’s birthday sex. This scene represents the essence of the story for me. The tides have turned to the point where Ana wants the rough “darker” sex and Christian wants the softer “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” sex. I’ve always told my kids that you know you’re in love when the other person’s happiness becomes more important than your own. This scene drives that home. Brilliant writing!
How many times have you read the series?
I must confess that I have read the trilogy 12 times. I also claim that my housework was only severely neglected during the first few readings…Lol.
Outside of Fifty Shades of Grey, what is your favorite book, series or author?
I’ve read quite of few of the recommended post-FSOG books and declare my second favorite as the Gabriel Trilogy by Sylvain Reynard.
If you were to meet E L James today, what 2 questions would you ask her?
The questions I would love to ask Erika, I am certain she would never be willing to answer, but since this is a fantasy question, I would ask:
1. You knew during the casting that there was a huge push for Matt Bomer. How did you personally feel about him? You must have seen a million pictures of him. Did you ever desire him as Christian? You’ve got to admit…the looks, voice, acting chops and charm were the perfect Christian. What really happened? Have you ever met him? (Sorry, that’s four questions!).
2. The criticisms of the writing, casting and film must be overwhelmingly stressful. How do you deal with it all? You must be incredibly mentally tough…even with Universal as support.
Have you had any unique experiences because of your love of Fifty Shades of Grey?
Yes! I began using twitter to be connected with fans of this story. I knew I couldn’t be this obsessed by myself! I have become close friends with women around the world. There are six of us that still chat everyday. What a gift this story has given me. I am forever grateful to Erika for this.
What scene are you most looking forward to in Fifty Shades of Grey The Movie?
The elevator scene, of course! Then there’s hearing the voice of Christian Grey say “Later’s Baby.” I might faint. I already know that I immediately will want to watch it over again. I may as well buy tickets for the first whole day..
