Happy 39 Days to #FiftyShades
I met Rachel on Twitter and she’s quickly become a great friend and supporter.
What is your name? Rachel
Where are you from? Currently in Canada.
How did you come to read Fifty Shades of Grey?
I have always been a very avid romance reader, and before fifty, good romance books were hard to come by, your favorite authors would only publish once a year and sometimes I spent days looking for something good that I haven’t read. It was Easter of 2012 and it kept popping up on my recommendations, and after some hesitation, I bought it. No one got much food on the holiday at my house I can tell you that!
Did you read an actual book or an ebook?
I haven’t bought a physical book in a very long time. Living in non-English speaking places, the Kindle changed my life, my library comes with me wherever I go and no more waiting for shipments from Amazon with nothing else to read!
Which is your favorite book in the series?
I think none of them can exist without the other so I won’t pick favorites.
What is your favorite scene in the series?
That’s a very tough question but I think the email exchange is one of the coolest things ever written in any book. I love how much detail we get, that we rarely miss a day, that it deals with serious things but its also very funny, and I could go on for a while here.
One scene though that always impresses me (out of all the obvious ones), is the fight they have before work when she gets kidnapped. Ana the lioness, protecting her cub I like to call it.
How many times have you read the series?
Around 5 I think, could be more though.
Outside of Fifty Shades of Grey, what is your favorite book, series or author?
Tough question for a bookworm, but from the top of my head and very eclectic:
Isabel Allende, Mia Sheridan, Alice Clayton, Jodi Ellen Malpas, Sylvia Day, Kristen Ashley, CD Reiss, M. Pierce, Lisa Kleypass, Jill Shalvis, Debra Anastasia, J. K. Rowling, Tolkien, J. A. Huss, Krista Richie, Cristina Lauren…I love taking chances on new ones, so the list is always growing.
If you were to meet E L James today, what 2 questions would you ask her?
I would ask her: How does it feel to change the world even a tiny little bit?
And then I would go on to thank her for causing a revolution that made my TBR so big I probably wont finish anytime soon, for showing the world who Villa Lobos and Thomas Thalis are and for making it have a whole soundtrack, for making women from free places more empowered and the ones from not so free places at least wonder, for trying very hard to make it come to life, for making people start to read, go back to reading and read more romance. For making people see that between good and evil, there are at least fifty shades of grey, that you can be fifty shades of fucked up and love won’t necessarily cure you, but it does help a lot. Now could we sit down for coffee somewhere so I can ramble and remember more things I would like to thank you for?
Have you had any unique experiences because of your love of Fifty Shades of Grey?
I get a lot of internal laughs with references and situations in my life, but I am not among greysessed people so it has been kind of just me with myself mostly but I’ve been meeting wonderful likeminded people on twitter and it has been loads of fun.
What scene are you most looking forward to in Fifty Shades of Grey The Movie?
I think I’m demanding a lot from Jamie here (and I think he’s up for the challenge) but aside from all the scenes we all hope for, I want to see all of Christian’s mercurial self in action. Recognize his moods by facial expressions, and get the feeling we get from the book on that front.
