I’ve read all the books in the Pucked series and this is one of the best ones.
First, if you’ve read any of the series you know it starts out as a heavy comedy series. The brilliance of Helena’s writing is that she takes a comedy series and slowly turns it into a bit of an angsty series. It’s a slow transition and it never loses it’s comedy. BUT, Pucked Off has a lot more angst in it than in the earlier books in the series. Yet, we have flashes of that great comedy we know from the series. She was also able to bring in some interesting things from earlier in the series, great job with that.
Whether you’ve read one of the pucked books or not, Lance is completely unexpected. Frankly, I was expecting a jerk of a character to reform, but this book was sooooo much more than that. He was a brilliant character to get to know and explore and changes he made as time went on. Helena tackles some tricky topics, but never makes it feel overdone or insensitive to someone who might have had a similar experience.
Great read, even if you’re never read another book in the series. You can pick up with just this book, though I think you’re missing out on the earlier books in the series by doing that.
