I want to first thank #OfficialFifty for sending us copies of all the different versions of Fifty Shades of Grey to review. The nice thing is that I had already purchased a copy of the Wal Mart edition, I will do a giveaway for that instead in the coming days.
In the meantime, feel free to comment on which version you bought and what you thought of it!
Best Buy Steelbook
I will admit that I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, other than knowing this would have a nicer box. But I was really impressed with how much nicer the box is. It’s strong and sturdy and really displays this classic movie poster cover. This was the version that most exceeded my expectation. If you keep a nice library of movies, this is a perfect edition. One thing I did not like about this version, and it was also the case with the Wal Mart version, inside the case there is no document that tells you what is on the discs, aside from Fifty Shades of Grey. Make sure you don’t rip the outside paper when you open it.
Wal Mart Special Edition
I was quite excited about this version with the collectable photobook, but I was slightly let down. The actual box is much nicer than I expected, it has a book feel with a different cover than the others two and feels quite sturdy. My disappointment was that the picture book is actually part of the DVD case. It’s not a big deal, but I think it makes it feel a little stiffer and harder to look through this way. But the behind the scenes pictures are very nice.
I did not get the limited edition version, and from what I can tell, it is sold out anyway. But I did get the Exclusive Target Edition. This version has a regular plastic Blu-ray case with the cardboard outside. If you like nice cases, this is not the version for you. BUT, if you like extras, this is the version for you. While all 3 special editions come with all the same content – theatrical and unrated version and lots of extras, the Target version has a few extra and as a bonus, they come on a DVD instead of a Blu-ray. So if you don’t have a Blu-ray player but have the iTunes version, you could still buy this version for the extra extras, which include:
THE MUSIC OF “FIFTY SHADES OF GREY”
A musical journey through the film including a discussion with composer Danny Elfman

Three separate pieces, illustrated with EXTENSIVE behind-the-scenes footage:

Don’t worry, one of these days I’ll review some of the extras!
