Last year after reading Hopeless by Colleen Hoover I wanted to read more of her writing. The other series I had heard a lot about was the Slammed series. This year I finally got around to reading it (victim of a long reading list). Slammed is the story of Layken; after her father died, Mom moved the family to Michigan. Layken was not excited to move from a warmer more comfortable Texas to a cold and unfamiliar Michigan in fall… But within minutes she meets the very cute neighbor, Will.
Just when Layken and Will start to fall for each other they find out a secret that will keep them apart. But living across the street and having brothers that are best friends makes the separation, difficult. Can they resist the pull?
Just when things are starting to settle down, more bad news. And what do you do when things go wrong, carve pumpkins! (You’ll get the joke when you read the book)
There are tons of sweet moments in this series, like carving pumpkins, sweet and suck time and anything with Will and Layken. I also learned to appreciate poetry.
Point of Retreat is just as fabulous as Slammed, but I felt that This Girl was a small step down. This Girl wasn’t bad, it was just a lot of flashbacks and while it offered new insight into the story, the story of Layken and Will didn’t progress much. Whether you choose to skip This Girl (you probably won’t) or not, the series is great, Colleen Hoover has a knack for creating awesome characters that you quickly fall in love with.
