In Chapter XIX Tess and Angel have a depressing flirtation.
In Chapter XX we find out that some time has passed, I’m not sure if it’s weeks or months. But, Tess is happy, finally! Tess and Angel are still trying to figure each other out, in that state where it’s more then like, but not quite love.
The days at the dairy start with Tess waking at 3 AM, waking Angel and then the other girls. After that Tess and Angel meet outside and spend time together until breakfast. Hardy compares this time to the feeling that Adam and Eve would have had. Interesting. I wonder if that had an impact on the Adam and Eve references that E L James used in Fifty Shades of Grey?
Angel seems to really like Tess, seeing her as an ideal woman. He starts teasing her and calling her by different names, like Artemis and Demeter. Boy, he’s in for a shock!
And that is all that happens in this chapter, kinda short and uneventful.
