This afternoon at CinemaCon, Universal gave the first glimpse of Fifty Shades of Grey to a non-studio audience. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, it was not available publicly.
Yahoo Movies has an AWESOME step by step of the trailer, which is 2 minutes long (don’t get sucked into the 3 and 5 minute rumors too quickly). So what is in the trailer, the meeting of Ana and Christian, a piano, a door, and the push pull between them. Shit, just go read the article, because I felt like I had almost seen it after reading it.
In less detail there is also a good article from The Hollywood Reporter about what was and wasn’t revealed in the teaser.
The clip showed Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as Anastasia and Christian Grey. The scenes included the characters meeting in Grey’s office. “Mr. Grey will see you now,” says the receptionist. The trailer showed them meeting in coffee shops and the hardware store where Anastasia works, all familiar scenes in the book.
While based EL James‘ erotic novel, the film looks more romantic than sexual. There was a brief glimpse of Johnson wearing a black blindfold in a red room, but most of the focus was on the courting of the couple.
“Hearts and flowers — that’s not who I am,” says Dornan’s character at one point in the trailer, which also showed one brief glimpse of Christian pushing Anastasia up against a wall.
Hmm, sounds like a nice mix of romance with enough to tantalize you with the potential sex scenes. I am surprised there was a glimpse from the Red Room of Pain, I thought they might have kept that closer to the vest.
When will it be publicly released? I don’t know, I wouldn’t be shocked if a copy got out and was quickly pulled down. But I suspect they’ll be looking for that and pull it VERY quickly.
I’ve always guessed the MTV Movie Awards on April 13th, but that seems like a long wait when the cat is already kinda out of the bag about it.
