After reading Poughkeepsie Begins by Debra Anastasia I was excited to see that she was publishing a new novel, The Revenger. The book is labeled paranormal, but honestly I didn’t even realize it until I read it was paranormal and thought, oh, yea, I guess it is. It’s not what I traditionally think of as a paranormal story: witches, and vampires. This is more like Superman paranormal, and who doesn’t like Superman?
I’m also hosting a giveaway until March 4, 2016 for a Kindle version of the book, enter here. Good Luck!
Savvy’s husband and daughter died 6 months ago, she hasn’t been the same since, and now she’s seeing things and it’s changed her behavior, she’s become The Revenger. But the story only starts there, it takes the reader on an interesting and constantly changing story.
The characters are well developed, and lovable. They help create a story of love, yes there is love, but not romance novel love. But it’s also a story of angst, a heartbreaking story of a woman who lost it all and is trying to find a way back to it.
Debra has said it’s a story that the mother in her wrote, the woman who will fight to the end for her children. I’m not a mother, just a single woman with some nephews. But the story still spoke to me, drew me in, and made my heart hurt for Savvy.
If you like a light, funny story, this isn’t it. However, for those of you who enjoy angst, and getting your heart ripped out, there’s plenty of that in The Revenger.
“What the hell are you?” He searched frantically for the door latch, his panic making him oblivious to the open top of the Jeep above him.
He didn’t deserve an answer, and he wouldn’t get one. Only in her head would she respond. She pulled him from the backseat and held him aloft, thinking, I’m a mom without a reason. I’m a person without a life. I’m dead with no escape.
