Several months ago a friend suggested I read the This Man series by Jodi Ellen Malpas. At the time only two of the three books in the trilogy had been published so I decided to wait until book three came out this July. My friend also told me that she might like Jesse Ward more than Christian Grey. I was skeptical and a bit worried, I didn’t want Christian to think I was cheating on him with another fictional character, you know how he can get.
And so I read, This Man staring Jesse Ward and Ava O’Shea. Ava has been hired to design a new wing of The Manor, owned by Jesse Ward. From the minute they meet they are both drawn to each other. Ava has a good set of running shoes, the better to run away from this attraction before it sucks her in. Jesse is persistent and tries to keep her from running.
But who will win? Who cares! Reading them pushing each other is the fun part. And so is the mystery in the book. Ok, I did have a good idea what the mystery was; but, as usual it’s not the mystery itself that is the mystery, but how the mystery unfolds that is the payoff to the reader.
The story, is good, but the characters are tumultuous, exciting and crazy as heck. I’ve only finished This Man and a bit of Beneath This Man, I’m not ready to ditch Christian Grey yet, but Jesse Ward would be fun to play with.
I also have the urge to buy myself something in lace…
