Before I read Fifty Shades of Grey I read a lot of non-smutty romance. Yes, I was too good for all that erotic stuff. Heck, I was too good for a harlequin. My how times have changed. One of my favorite authors back then was Jude Deveraux. I started reading her books in high school and have read every one of them. And I do still love her, but she’s not a smutty romance write. So, if you’re looking for something tamer then Fifty Shades of Grey I highly recommend Jude Deveraux’s True Love.
Why do I love this book? The writing is great, although I wouldn’t say the descriptions are the best I’ve read, they have made me immerse myself into life on Nantucket. I’ve grown to love the characters and totally get their attraction. Jude Deveraux has a subtle way of drawing you into the characters.
The story has some fun elements, including a ghost and a mystery to solve. It’s been a while since I read some of Jude Deveraux’s earlier works (high school was more than a few years ago), but I believe she has connected Jared as a distant relative to some of her older characters. It’s been a fun flashback for me, but is also subtle enough that a casual reader wouldn’t notice or feel they were missing something.
There will be some more books in this series, and if it’s true to Jude Deveraux’s usual style, the new books will be about the new characters with an occasional mention of Jared and Alix helping to make something happen.
Oh, and I really want to go to Nantucket now.
