My To Be Read list is so long that I sometimes just put author names on it, Daisy is one of those authors. When We Were Here came out recently, the whole mixed tape theme caught my eye and I figured I would start here. And WOW, Daisy did not disappoint.
We Were Here tells the story of a group of friends through college, in the days of the mix tape. It was a little bit before my time in college when I hauled all 300+ CDs back and forth to school each year. But the stories of college are timeless. It’s no wonder this story sucked me in from the very start.
I think each and every one of us can identify with someone from this unlikely group of seven that developed meaningful bonds through the years of college. There’s the pot smoker, the “loose” girl, the gay man, and I’ll let you figure out the rest. I’m not going to tell you who I identified with, but I did find myself wiping away tears as I remembered my own college experiences.
When I started this book I thought it would be a light and fun reminder of those days in college, but it was so much more. It was a heart warming reminder of the lives and loves of the past.
P.S. I’m probably already done with Geoducks are for Lovers by the time this posts.
